Cedar Point Club and the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) have announced a five-year partnership beginning in 2026, during which Cedar Point will host several prestigious VSGA championships and events.
The partnership includes the following events:
- 81st Captain's Putter Matches – October 16–17, 2026
- 9th VSGA Parent-Child Championship – August 2026
- 59th VSGA Junior Girls' Championship – 2028
- 83rd VSGA Senior Amateur Championship – 2030
"Cedar Point has been an unwavering supporter and partner of the VSGA for decades. The club has hosted virtually every championship we offer, and we are excited to announce this latest package of events that will take place over the next five years," said VSGA Executive Director Matt Smiley.
"Competitors in these events will undoubtedly enjoy a fantastic experience at Cedar Point. They'll appreciate the outstanding golf course and facilities, while the hospitality shown by the club's members and staff is truly second to none, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere."
First held in 1955, the Captain's Putter Matches is an annual Ryder Cup-style interstate competition featuring top players from the Virginia State Golf Association and the West Virginia Golf Association competing against the Carolinas Golf Association. The two-day event includes four-ball and foursome matches on the opening day, followed by singles matches on the second day. Cedar Point will host the competition for the first time on October 16–17, 2026.
Following a successful debut in 2025, the VSGA Parent-Child Championship will return to Cedar Point in August 2026. The one-day, two-person captain's choice tournament features a field of 100 parent-child teams spanning all age groups. The 2025 championship was won by Jason and JJ Robertson, who fired an impressive 13-under-par 59.
Cedar Point will also host the VSGA Junior Girls' Championship for the second time, having previously welcomed the event in 1979, when Joni Jordan of Lynchburg defeated Kathy Ayers of Waynesboro by two strokes. The championship is a 54-hole stroke play competition with a cut after the first two rounds. It now carries added significance as an official USGA Exemption Event, with the winner earning an automatic berth into that year's U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.
The VSGA Senior Amateur Championship features 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying, with the top 32 players advancing to match play. Cedar Point last hosted the championship in 2012, when Tim Kelley defeated Steve Williams with a birdie on the 19th hole to capture the title.
"On behalf of everyone at Cedar Point Club, we are humbled that the VSGA continues to hold our club in such high regard," said Cedar Point President and Chairman Cameron Robinett.
"Our philosophy has remained consistent for years. It is a privilege, an honor, and an expectation that we answer the call whenever the VSGA comes knocking. This latest series of championships only strengthens that commitment, and I am thrilled to see our partnership continue to grow."
Overall, Cedar Point Club has hosted 14 VSGA championships, most recently the Super Senior Stroke Play Championship and the Parent-Child Championship in 2025. Throughout its history, the club has hosted four Virginia Amateur Championships, a Women's Amateur, Mid-Amateur, Junior Stroke Play, Women's Stroke Play, and two Four-Ball Championships. Alongside Farmington Country Club, Cedar Point is only the second club in Virginia history to have hosted every major VSGA championship at least once.
